Intake conversation
We'll schedule a conversation, and when appropriate an intake evaluation, to get to know your child and make sure the program is a good fit.
Join a group
Your child is placed in a group matched to their age and developmental profile.
Fees & funding
Golden Gate Regional Center
If your family receives services through GGRC, ask your case manager about a referral to Peer Play Mission. Your case manager will discuss the referral with Dr. Rocco, and together we'll schedule an intake evaluation to determine whether the program is a good fit for your child.
Private insurance
If your child has an autism diagnosis and your California-based insurance plan does not offer a comparable program in your area, you may be able to seek out-of-network reimbursement under California law (SB 946). We can provide documentation to support your claim.
Private pay
Group sessions are $150 per session. Adjunct services, including report writing and scheduled consultations for clinical issues outside our group work, are billed at $200 per hour. Dr. Rocco is also available at no charge to discuss your child's progress and answer questions about our playgroups as needed.
Sliding-scale pricing is available. We make every effort to include children who can benefit from our services; talk to us.
Questions parents ask
Who are the playgroups for?
Our playgroups serve children ages 3 to 11 who could use a little extra help socializing with peers, including children on the autism spectrum and those with other developmental differences. A diagnosis is not required. Children older than 11 may still benefit from our program depending on their individual developmental profile. Children with significant behavioral challenges who are unable to follow safety rules are not a good match for this group intervention.
My child isn't autistic. Can they still join?
Yes. Many children face social difficulties for various reasons and would benefit from our playgroups. Neurotypical children, especially siblings and friends, are also a valued part of our groups as peer playmates, and they gain empathy, flexibility, and confidence too.
What ages do you serve?
Our groups are recommended for children ages 3 to 11, but there is some flexibility depending on individual needs.
What does a first visit look like?
We understand that every child and family is unique, and we tailor introductions to new peers, staff, and the program to meet our clients where they are. Some children quickly integrate into a group and separate easily from their parents, while others initially need a caregiver's reassuring presence in the playroom to feel safe. Our goal is to listen to our clients, trust them, and promote agency and healthy choices.
How big are the groups?
The average group is between 6 and 8 children, with some variability when siblings participate. Our typical adult-to-child ratio is between 1:2 and 1:3.
Do you take insurance?
We don't bill insurance directly, but families may qualify for GGRC funding or out-of-network reimbursement under SB 946. See Fees & funding above.
